Most commonly, selenite forms as white, translucent crystals with striations and a vitreous luster. Selenite forms in enormous deposits and beds of sedimentary rocks such as limestone or in clay. There have been instances of selenite forming in igneous rock. The mineral selenite can be found all over the world, but is most often found in Mexico, Poland, Russia, Greece, Japan, Australia, Argentina, Brazil and the United States.
